Our Work
The problem we address
- With over 70% of Ugandan population depending on substance farming – cultivating on the same small pieces of land for their entire life; and practicing soil degrading farming methods; access to food security, and incomes becomes a big challenge. This is exacerbated by the harsh effects of climate change.
- Such farmers include refugees in Uganda who unfortunately lack the knowledge and skills on regenerative agronomic practices that are climate smart. At the same time, the food aid provided to refugees is no longer sufficient to sustain their household food needs. Sadly, the children and women suffer the most! Due to lack of nutritious meals, children become malnourished which affects their growth and health
- We have therefore identified the need to build the capacity of smallholder farmers focusing on women and refugees to be resilient to climate change effects, improve their food, nutrition and incomes. By implementing bundled regenerative farming techniques, beneficiaries are introduced to regenerative horticulture and vegetable farming, making of organic fertilizers, fruit tree planting, local poultry rearing as well as linkage to formal financial services.
