Regen leadership program

The ReGen Leaders Program is a pioneering fellowship designed to train and empower a network of regenerative agriculture champions across communities in Uganda and East Africa. By combining hands-on training, innovative farming techniques, and community leadership, the program strengthens sustainable agriculture, boosts productivity, and enhances climate resilience.

Program goal

To create a network of regenerative agriculture champions who promote sustainable farming, improve soil health, increase productivity, and strengthen resilience to climate shocks.

Objectives

Capacity building. Equip farmers, youth, refugees and extension workers with regenerative agriculture, permaculture and leadership skills
Community outreach.Enable champions to share knowledge, mentor peers, and mobilize local communities. Champions are provided with a small grant to implement their innovation
Sustainability and scale. Foster local leadership and lasting farmer networks that continue beyond the program.

Regenerative learning centre

Building on the success of our community-based initiatives, YICE is expanding its reach to farmers beyond refugee communities, including participants from across East Africa, as well as policymakers, extension officers, and community leaders. The proposed Regenerative Agriculture Centre will serve as a permanent, state-of-the-art learning hub, equipping participants with practical skills in regenerative farming that can be applied directly on their farms and households.

The Centre will function as a one-stop hub for regenerative agriculture education, research, and practical application, accessible to both local and international audiences. It will provide hands-on training in permaculture and organic farming, facilitate cutting-edge research and innovation, offer eco-tourism experiences, and provide access to high-quality indigenous seeds and organic produce to support local communities.

Key services and activities

Professional Permaculture Design Courses (PDC) . Field-based and virtual certified courses recognized by Uganda’s Directorate of Industrial Training (DIT), equipping participants with globally recognized permaculture expertise.
Organic Farming & Fertilizer Production. Practical training on producing liquid and solid organic fertilizers and natural pest control solutions, empowering participants to adopt sustainable practices and generate supplementary income.
Regenerative Tours. Eco-friendly guided tours showcasing sustainable farming systems, biodiversity conservation, and local ecosystems for both national and international visitors.

Research & Innovation. Applied research to test, document, and refine regenerative farming practices, integrating indigenous knowledge, and providing a platform for students and innovators to implement new approaches.
Food Production & Seed Bank. Cultivation of nutritious organic produce for local and international markets, alongside a seed bank supplying high-quality indigenous seeds to strengthen local food systems.
Youth and Community Programs. Skills-building initiatives in technical and soft skills, social development, sports, and accommodation facilities for learners and visitors, fostering community engagement and capacity development.

Construction and community engagement

The Centre will be established on nearly 4 acres of land, with initial construction underway using sustainable, eco-friendly techniques, including recycled bottles. Local youth and women are actively engaged in the construction process, gaining valuable employment and training in green building practices.
